Millwork Craftsman

$16.00 – $20.00 per hour

 

Summary:

The Millwork Craftsman Assists in transporting materials and assembling custom doors and hardware according to specifications and preparing finished products for shipment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Include the following:

  • Fully read, understand, and review work orders. Assists in operating machines to build jambs; route pockets for hinges and strike plates, bevel edges, sand and assemble doors, and install hardware.
  • Fills in imperfections with putty or other filler, as appropriate, and sands components to obtain specified finish.
  • Visually inspects materials and products for conformance to work order specifications and quality standards.
  • Assists in cleaning, adjusting and calibrating machines and other basic service activities.
  • Secures finished door assemblies on pallets for warehousing or shipment.
  • Assists in performing shop inventory. Counts and records standard jamb stock, hardware, weather stripping, subsills, sweeps and other materials and supplies.
  • Performs housekeeping duties. Cleans up work areas between orders or as needed.
  • Provides instruction and assistance to other Door Shop employees, as needed.

 

Other Duties:

  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Assists in the warehouse, production and millwork shops as needed.

  • Requires ability to learn basic woodworking and door assembly procedures and to identify various species of wood and develop familiarity with their characteristics.
  • Requires practical knowledge of Company policies, safety procedures, and other guidelines to consistently comply with work rules.
  • Requires ability to read and comprehend employee handbooks, safety manuals, blueprints, product and warning labels, work orders, and other documents.
  • Must have the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to co-workers and customers.
  • Requires basic math, algebra, and geometry skills to accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must be able to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations such as calculating angles and quantity of materials.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must be able to safely assist in the operation of table saw, radial arm saw and chop saws; routers, drills, and dado machines; hand and machine sanders; joiners; planers; boring machines; hand tools such as chisels and hammers; measuring tapes, calipers, and other standard woodworking tools and equipment.
  • If authorized to operate a forklift, must be able to obtain and maintain forklift certification and consistently follow forklift inspection and operation procedures.
  • Must be able to work flexible and extended (overtime) hours as needed.
  • Must demonstrate cooperative behaviors, assisting co-workers as needed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk; talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. This employee is occasionally required to bend, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 70 pounds and occasionally team-lift and/or move up to 100 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must have mobility to move freely within the production area and throughout the worksite.

While the Millwork Craftsman is performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; loud noise; fumes, dust or airborne particles; and other hazards requiring the use of appropriate personal protective equipment, which may include, but is not limited to: hearing protection, face masks, safety glasses, gloves, and foot protection.
