Position Overview

This role is ideal for someone who loves details, numbers, and the craft of custom woodwork. The Millwork Blueprint Takeoff Specialist reviews architectural drawings and project documents to identify, describe, and quantify interior and exterior millwork and specialty wood components. Your work directly supports the preparation of accurate proposals for a specialty woodworking shop that produces high-quality custom products.

This position can be remote, depending on experience and training requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze blueprints, architectural drawings, and project files to identify all interior and exterior millwork and specialty wood components provided by the company.
  • Set up detailed takeoff matrices for each project to describe and quantify products such as:
      • Interior and exterior trim
      • Doors, frames, and casings
      • Custom moldings and specialty wood details
      • Other millwork components as specified
  • Reconcile bills, purchase orders, and contracts to ensure quantities, materials, and pricing align with project specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain project summaries for field representatives, project managers, and/or homeowners.
  • Develop and submit lists of clarifications and questions (e.g., material type, profiles, finishes, dimensions) to the Blueprint/Proposal Supervisor for follow-up with contractors, architects, or clients.
  • Submit completed takeoff matrices and project summaries to the Supervisor for review and proposal preparation.
  • Maintain organized records, status updates, and documentation for each project.

 

Work Environment

  • Work is generally performed in a standard office or home-office environment with low to moderate noise levels.

  • Frequently required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.

Qualifications

The company is willing to train the right candidate with strong math skills, attention to detail, and interest in millwork or woodworking.

  • Basic knowledge of millwork/woodworking products (trim, moldings, doors, frames, etc.) and building codes is helpful; company will train for this knowledge.
  • Ability or willingness to learn how to read and interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, project files, specification books, and vendor catalogs.
  • Strong ability to prepare accurate takeoff matrices, project summaries, and status reports.
  • Comfortable presenting information one-on-one to coworkers, supervisors, and vendors.
  • Solid math skills, including:
      • Geometry and algebra
      • Fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions
      • Applying these concepts to linear feet, square feet, counts, and material quantities.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of variables where limited standardization exists.
  • Able to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Comfortable using:
      • Computers, printers, calculators, copiers
      • Rolling scale/technical scale
      • Standard office equipment
  • Proficient in spreadsheet and network-based software applications (Excel or similar required).
  • Highly detail-oriented and precise, with the ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
  • Demonstrates discretion and tact when handling sensitive or confidential information.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan and prioritize work, manage multiple projects, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work overtime and a flexible schedule as business needs require.
