Job Summary:
The Sleep Lab Technician conducts sleep studies to assist in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders. This role involves working closely with patients during overnight sleep studies, monitoring physiological data, and ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the process.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct Sleep Studies: Prepare patients by attaching monitoring devices, explaining procedures, and ensuring their comfort.
Monitor and Record Data: Continuously observe and document brain activity (EEG), heart rate (ECG), eye movements (EOG), muscle activity (EMG), and oxygen levels during sleep studies.
Patient Care: Ensure patients’ safety and comfort during the study, addressing any concerns or issues that arise.
Data Analysis: Assist in analyzing data to identify sleep disorders like sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, and restless legs syndrome. Collaborate with physicians to provide comprehensive reports.
Equipment Maintenance: Calibrate and maintain sleep study equipment, reporting any malfunctions.
Documentation: Accurately record all procedures, observations, and patient interactions in the medical record system.
Patient Education: Educate patients about the study process, providing pre- and post-study care instructions and guidance on sleep hygiene.
Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, infection control policies, and regulatory guidelines.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Certification: Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) certification or willingness to obtain certification within a specified time.
Experience: Prior experience in a sleep lab or related healthcare setting is preferred.
Skills:
Strong attention to detail and accurate data monitoring.

Effective problem-solving and response to unexpected situations.
Working Conditions:
Must be able to work overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Ability to stand, walk, and assist patients during shifts.
