Moulder Operator
Pay: $15.00 to $20.00 per hour DOE (Employees given a total of three weeks paid vacation time and medical benefits after probation period)
Schedule: Monday – Friday 7am to 4pm (overtime is typical)

Summary:
Sets up and operates equipment to produce moulding and trim to customer specifications.

  • Requires practical knowledge of precision machining and woodworking operations and procedures. Must be able to distinguish between various types of lumber and have familiarity with the characteristics of each.
  • Requires working knowledge of Company policies, safety procedures, and other guidelines to consistently comply with and enforce work rules.
  • Requires ability to read and comprehend work orders, drawings, patterns, procedure manuals, employee handbooks, safety manuals, product and warning labels, and other documents.
  • Must have basic writing skills to complete checklists or other documents as needed.
  • Must have the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to co-workers.
  • Requires general math and basic geometry and algebra skills to accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must be able to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations such as the design of precision tooling and profiles and optimizing production while minimizing waste.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Must be able to effectively and safely operate: planers, moulders, bench and wheel grinders, chop saws, hand tools, digital scales, tool stands, and other standard precision machining and woodworking equipment. Requires the ability to proficiently operate computers and use Windows and Power Comp software applications.
  • Requires strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must demonstrate cooperative behaviors, assisting co-workers as needed.
  • Must be able to work flexible and extended hours (overtime) as needed.
  • Must be able to travel overnight or longer to attend training or other business on behalf of the Company.


Education and/or Experience:
Requires a High school diploma or G.E.D. plus two years of prior woodworking and/or precision machining experience, or equivalent in education and experience. Proven computer skills required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Forklift certification (preferred but not required)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reviews work orders with Moulder Team Lead and Department Manager to plan day’s production.
  • Prepares tooling for machines. Sets knives in tool heads; aligns, calibrates and balances knives
  • Manually sets up moulder tooling to ensure proper alignment and depth. Matches profile to specified dimensions and sets up hold-down cassette shoes to desired profile. Cuts sample and submits to the Production Superintendent for approval. Saves approved profile by job name.
  • Inputs moulder profiles, job lists and other tool data into the tool room computer, which downloads data into the moulder computer.
  • Sets up and calibrates moulder to cut wood to specifications. Hones knives, adjusts equipment or makes other alterations to ensure production quality.
  • Resets and re-tools equipment as needed.
  • Performs routine maintenance to the moulder, as scheduled or needed. Cleans and oils equipment. Adjusts feed rollers and the hold down to minimize “bouncing” through equipment.
  • Performs housekeeping tasks to keep the work area clean and organized. Cleans equipment and sweeps up debris in the work area. Organizes tools in the tool room. Wraps and properly stores knives. Sweeps floors, cleans shelves and outside counters. Labels, stores and organizes tool heads and stocks samples on peg hooks on the wall

Other Duties:
Assists in other departments as needed and work schedule permits.
